Biography

Over the past six years, Colin Gilbert has established one of the most versatile performance poetry careers in the United States. The seventh-ranked performance poet in the world in 2009, Colin has performed at almost 500 universities, poetry venues and private engagements, including The Ballpark in Arlington (home of the Texas Rangers), music and film festivals, events for The Dallas Cowboys and even a few prisons (voluntarily, of course). His high-energy poetry has even made its way into modern dance programs and advertising campaigns.
More recently, Colin has focused his efforts on spreading the appreciation of poetry to younger audiences and encouraging them to |
embrace their artistic abilities early in life. Colin currently holds two positions (Writing Director and Special Events Director) on the board of Mic Check Poetry, the non-profit arts organization in Bryan, Texas.
Colin's writing can be found in dozens of literary journals, magazines and anthologies. He is the recipient of multiple honors, including the Hughes, Diop, Knight Literary Award, and was recently chosen as one of the winners of the 2013 National Poetry Awards Haiku Contest and the Spiceworks HP Elitepad Haiku Contest. Colin's new, full-length poetry book, The Mattress Parlor, is currently available from Scribble Fire Press. |
